Animal Shelter Technician

We Care Animal Rescue is looking for compassionate animal lovers for our part-time Animal Shelter Technician. The Technician is loved by our animals, since they feed, care for and make sure our cats and dogs have a hygienic and safe home. This key team member maintains the cleanliness in the shelter buildings and related areas, monitors animal well-being and helps ensure the Shelter is in good operating condition. The Animal Shelter Technician works closely with other staff members, the animals, and reports directly to the Shelter Manager.

We Care Animal Rescue is a private non-profit organization established in 1982. Our shelter serves as a refuge for homeless cats and dogs in the Napa Valley. We foster and promote the general welfare of animals by caring for these animals, finding them homes, tending to the medically and behaviorally challenged, and educating the public on animal welfare. Shelter and Animal Hygiene:
Responsible for the cleanliness of the assigned animal shelter buildings, which includes: cleaning and sanitizing floors, tables, windows and walls, and cleaning/refilling litter boxes
Checks / replaces linens and bedding and launders
Feeds and provides water to the cats and dogs; cleans the water and food bowls
Records checklist details of sanitation completion

Safety and Security:
Notifies Shelter Manager and co-workers of observations of health or behavioral changes
Promptly contacts appropriate individuals about any animals in distress
Monitors building and equipment safety and notifies Shelter Manager of needed repairs or dangers
Models and encourages safe practices and follows protocols and regulatory compliance throughout the organization

Experience and Skills:
Passionate about the mission, goals, and philosophy of We Care Animal Rescue
A love for domestic animals and wildlife
Experience working with animals, either personally or professionally
Able to read animal body language; understands how to work with fearful or aggressive animals
Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, neatness, and dependability to produce work within acceptable standards
Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a teamwork
Able to pull and/or push items weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds
